Wallcreeper

Signature birds / The Pyrenees

Area of distribution is limited to the mountain ranges of Europe and Asia. In Spain it can only be found in the Pyrenees and the Cantabrian range. Adapted to life on cliff faces and vertical walls, it climbs in little jumps and brief spurts of flight, undulating flight pattern, butterfly-like.

Grey body, spectacular carmine red wings and a long curved bill, the male has a black throat in summer. Limited migratory habits: in winter it comes down from the Pyrenees to the mountain ranges and river cliffs of the Ebro Depression.
