Bonelli’s Eagle

Ebro depression / Signature birds / The Iberian System / The Pyrenees

Medium sized eagle, powerful-looking with long, broad wings and tail, strong feathered legs. Upper parts dark with a white flecked chest. Juveniles are reddish-brown until the third year.

Inhabits the hills and river valleys of the PrePyrenees, Ebro Valley and the Iberian System. Main food source is rabbit. Very aggressive and will defend its territory against bigger birds. In Aragón it is “In danger of extinction”, with only 30 -40 breeding pairs.
