The smallest carrion-feeding raptor in Spain, adults are white, with a black edge to the wings and a bald face which is orangey- yellow. Juveniles are dark until the fourth year.

Feeds on the remains of small animals. Whilst threatened on a global scale, Aragón has a good breeding population of about 300 pairs. Catalogued as “Vulnerable” in Aragón, in some areas the population has suffered through the use of poison.
